Research and studies in Urban Planning

 Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
ULHT, recognised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education in 1998, is the largest
private university in Portugal. The ULHT is part of the Lusófona Group
(http://portal.grupolusofona.pt), which today integrates 10 higher education institutions in Portugal,
Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau.
CIDSU - Centre for Research and Studies in Urbanism has as its overall objectives in a multidisciplinary
perspective to design, implement and disseminate research and other scientific activities mainly in
favour of natural and cultural heritage, territorial identities, urban and rural development in the context
of the globalised economy and culture. CIDSU’s core activities are carried out by three Main Research
Groups which work in a very articulated way, “Sociourbanism and Spatial Planning”, “Geography of
Identities and Development” and “Sociomuseology”. The multidisciplinary character of CIDSU’s
objectives and activities is guaranteed by diverse academic profiles and professional expertise of the
research staff and collaborators, including Urban Planners, Geographers, Cultural Anthropologists,
Sociologists and Museologists, with considerable international experience in fundamental, policy and
applied research and consulting. CIDSU has been involved in national and international research projects
financed by FCT, FP6, Interreg, Marie Curie Action, ENRIConsortium Norway and EEA Grants.
