Professor Zollo is the director of the Center for Research in Organization and Management (CROMA) and the Bocconi Dean’s Chaired Professor in Corporate Strategy and Sustainability at the Management and Technology department of Bocconi University. He has also a part-time chair appointment at WU, Vienna School of Economics and Business, in the Strategy and Innovation department..
President Elect of the European Academy of Management (EURAM) on May 2011, he is also the editor of the European Management Review, the official journal of the European Academy of Management (EURAM) and the academic director of the Global Organizational Learning and Development Network (GOLDEN) for Sustainability program.
His research work aims to understand how managers can guide the evolution of corporations through the combined use of strategic initiatives, socialization processes and knowledge management techniques. It thus focuses on the management of corporate development processes, from strategy implementation (acquisitions and strategic alliances) to organizational learning and corporate sustainability practices.
He is the author of 27 academic articles, 10 managerial publications and 2 books over the last decade. The managerial insights from his research were featured on the Harvard Business Review, the McKinsey Quarterly, the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times, whereas the academic output is published on some of the most respected journals, such as AMJ, AMR, SMJ, Org. Sci, ICC, Org. St., AMP, RP.
Professor Zollo serves on the Executive Committee of EURAM and of the European Academy of Business in Society (which he helped establish in 2001). He has also chaired the Innovation and Knowledge interest group and was a founder of the Stakeholder Strategy interest group of the Strategic Management Society. A past member of Executive Committee of the strategy division of the Academy of Management, he also co-founded the Business & Society division of EURAM. In addition to his editor role for the European Management Review, he also served as associate editor or editorial board member of six other leading academic journals in strategy and organization studies.
Before joining Bocconi University in September 2007, he served for 10 years on the faculty of INSEAD in the strategy department. He holds a Ph.D. degree in management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a laurea degree in monetary economics from Bocconi University.
Before starting his academic career, professor Zollo worked as a strategy consultant and as investment banker for McKinsey & Co. and Merrill Lynch. He has also consulted and delivered executive development programs for firms like IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, Daimler Chrysler, Foster’s, KPMG, AON, Société Générale, DNV, Dexia Bank and Telecom Italia.
