Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
Michele Nicoletti (1956) studied philosophy at the University of Bologna (Dr. Phil. 1980) and then, as a research fellow of the Istituto Trentino di Cultura, in Trento, Innsbruck and Munich. From 1991 to 1998 he held a permanent position in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Padua as assistant professor and lecturer in Theoretical and Moral Philosophy. In 1999 he became Associate Professor for Political Philosophy at the same university and in 2001 Full Professor for Political Philosophy at the University of Trento (Faculty of Arts and School of International Studies). His research interests span from ethics and political theory to an interdisciplinary perspective on the relation between ethics, religion and politics in Italian and German philosophy of the last two centuries. In 1983 he published his first book on these topics with reference to Soeren Kierkegaards philosophy . His second monography (1990) focused on the concept of political theology in Carl Schmitts political and legal thought. 2000 he devoted his third book to a more theoretical question, i.e. the relation between politics and evil in political philosophy. He organised seminars and research groups on history and meaning of a political theology and on the sources and the characters of a European ethics,
He is member of the Editorial Board of the Series Ethical Perspectives published by the KU Leuven and of the Media Ethics Editorial team of the European Ethics Network. He is the Editor of the academic journal Politics and Religion
