Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
The Centre for Applied Language Studies (CALS) is a research institute at the University of Jyväskylä. The aim of the centre is to develop language education on a wide-ranging basis. Research conducted in the CALS anticipates and takes into account social needs and issues. Common to all research is the view on language as a social and interactive phenomenon that constructs identities and culture.

Research projects are characterized by a multidisciplinary and applied approach that brings together perspectives from, for example, language study, sociology, educational research, and pedagogy. Research is focused on the effects of social changes on language education.
