The WLRI undertake socially committed academic and applied research into all aspects of working lives, emphasising equality and social justice

Expertise in a range of areas linked to work in Europe, within the UK and internationally: work and place and identity, migration, discrimination, trade unions, employee representation, vulnerable workers, European social models, multinational companies, industrial relations, employment law, precarious work, forced labour, union learning...
For ten years, the WLRI, currently a 12-strong team of researchers with strong administrative support, has been carrying out qualitative and some quantitative research - primarily funded from Europe Framework programmes and other European tender opportunities, but also with UK Research Council grants, and with funding from UK European and international trade union organisations.

 International and national projects beyond EU Framework Programme
Over the ten years of the WLRI we have completed 107 research projects and are currently involved in a further 31. Of these 140 projects, roughly two thirds are European comparative in scope, and the other third focusing essentially on the UK.
