The Analysis of Educational Systems and Practices (aSPe) Department, headed by Professor Dominique Lafontaine since 2005 is composed of about 20 resarchers. The researches led by the aSPe primarily aim at understanding and improving education and training systems through theoretical researches, assessments aimed at measuring equity and effectiveness of education systems, field interventions, construction of educational tools.

o Assessment of school achievement – Participation in the international comparative studies led by the IEA (Timss, Pirls) or the Oecd (PISA).
o Conception and direction of national external assessments in the French Community of Belgium.
o Construction of indicators in education, comparative studies of education and training systems, monitoring of education systems.
o Construction of educational tools in different fields: mother tongue, mathematics, science, foreign languages, computer literacy.
o Support and evaluation of innovations and reforms in education.
o Studies about relationships between schools and families.
