Brief description of your activity focus
The ethics of borders and cross-border migration, liberal democracies moral duties to resident non-citizens, including irregular and work migrants

Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
Marit Hovdal-Moan is currently a Postdoc research fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of Philosophy. She previously held a Leverhulme Visiting Research Fellowship at the University of Wales, Newport, which she took up after completing her PhD at NTNU, Programme for Applied Ethics, in 2010.

Hovdal-Moan is working on questions around liberal democracies obligations towards resident non-citizens, with a specific focus on irregular immigrants and temporary migrant workers. Her wider research interests include normative approaches to international migration management, and the moral justifiability of state borders and boundaries, including those constituted by internal forms of exclusion of resident non-citizens. Her post doc project involves exploring these topics from the perspective of liberty-based accounts of justice, with a specific focus on freedom understood as non-domination.
