 Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
TESEV) is an independent non-governmental think-tank, analyzing Turkey’s most pressing social, cultural,
political and economic issues. Based in Istanbul, TESEV was founded in 1994 to serve as a bridge between
academia, civil society and policy makers.
TESEV works in three programme areas, namely Democratization, Foreign Policy, and Good Governance.
Under each of these program areas, TESEV conducts academic research, prepares and disseminates
publications based on this research, and carries out advocacy on the basis of such research through
organizing conferences, seminars and workshops, in each of its working areas. A good part of advocacy
efforts is geared towards the policy makers, in order to provide input to the policy making processes
through scientific research and socio-political analysis. TESEV has established strong partnerships with
other civil society institutions in Turkey and organizations abroad. Among the foreign and international
organizations TESEV has worked with are the European Commission, European Parliament, World Bank,
Democratic Control of Armed Forces, United Nations Development Program, Norwegian Refugee Council,
Open Society Institute, National Endowment for Democracy, Center for European Policy Studies, the
British Council, French Institute of International Relations, Japan Social Development Fund Internal
Displacement Monitoring Center, International Center for Transitional Justice, Euro-Mediterranean Study
Commission, The Center for European Policy Studies, Chrest Foundation, SIDA (Swedish International
Development Cooperation Agency), and many other important institutions.

European minority rights and protection; democratization; religiosity and secularism; migration; borders;
