Immigration in rural areas of Europe

In the framework of my PhD I am studying the economic and social integration of immigrants in Greek
rural labour markets; the socioeconomic implications for rural labour markets; and the demographic and
economic changes in rural areas owned to immigrants.
In parallel, throughout my participation in a large number of research activities in European funded
projects, I worked in multidisciplinary and multinational research teams showing particular interest in
a. Regional development planning capabilities and human resources capacities on rural, remote
Mediterranean areas (in Greece and Italy), b. Employment and social protection policies in Greece and
Italy, c. Migrants’ impact on the labour market and SME s of Greek and Italian peripheral regions (e.g.
Ionian Islands and Salento), d. The permanent monitoring of migrants’ integration in the local
In this framework, I contributed to the design and development of research and I carried out all the
needed duties, contributing to the development of the appropriate research methodologies, reviewing
literature and developing the theoretical framework, collecting and analyzing primary data, employing
both quantitative and qualitative methods.
