Causes and consequences of social cohesion for spatial distributions of crime, victimisation and fear of crime

Wim Hardyns (°17/01/1984) graduated in July 2006 as licentiate/Master in Criminological Sciences at the Ghent University with his thesis “Football violence in Belgium in the year 2005: priority or negligible trouble? A quantitative research”. Furthermore, in July 2008 he obtained the certificate “Master in Business Economics” at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Ghent. In January 2007 he joined the Research Unit Social Analysis of Security where he works on the project “Social Cohesion Indicators for the Flemish Region, The development of Comprehensive Social Cohesion indicators at the local level in Flanders” during 4 years. Aim of the criminological part of this project is to measure and study indicators of social cohesion and the effects on municipal spread of crime, disorder, fear of crime and victimisation. His doctoral dissertation is linked to this project and will be defended in November 2010.
