Irmgard Schultz has a PhD in Political Sciences. She is senior researcher and cofounder of ISOE and has profound experiences in managing and leading transdisciplinary projects. Since the beginning in 1989, IS has built up a social-ecological approach on ‘Gender & Environment’ within the research field of sustainable consumption.
The main focus of her scientific work comprises the following fields:
Everyday Life Ecology and Sustainable Consumption: focus in transdisciplinary, target group specific demand side analysis and development of integrative social-ecological concepts (food, energy, housing area),
Gender & Environment: Gender Impact Assessments (GIA) (FP5 funded GIA of the EU Environment and Sustainability Program); GIAs in different fields of the German Ministry of the Environment, Integration concepts of gender & diversity aspects in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) including CSR related impact measurement models (FP6 and FP7 projects).
Her overall focus is to developing further concepts of integrating social and environmental concepts, strategies and programs.

International and national projects beyond EU Framework Programme
The project was initiated by the Institute for Social-Ecological Research and is aiming to steady and expand a network which started as a result of co-operations having taken place within the project in order to establish long-term possibilities of cooperating within special areas of research. The project is funded within the funding programme Social-Ecological Research by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research.

Analysis of the qualitative structures concerning the consumption of organic food products with the help of a target group model. It was undertaken in order to find out how to improve market opportunities for organic products taking into consideration the specific wishes and preferences of the target groups in question. Accordingly measures to achieve this goal were developed. (funded by the Federal Programme for Ecological Agriculture)
Gender Impact Assessment in the Field of Radiation Protection and Environment
The project Gender Impact Assessment in the Area of Radiation Protection and Environment aimed at developing a Gender Impact Assessment prototype. The project had two parts: firstly, on the basis of the 2001 revised radiation protection regulations the prototype was developed (pilot phase), and secondly, the prototype was tested in the area of product-oriented environmental protection (trial phase). Both tasks were successfully completed within the project. (funded by the German Federal Environment Ministry).
Gender Impact Assessment of the Specific Programmes of the Fifth Framework Programme: Environment and Sustainable Development
A study commissioned by the European Commission to assess the gender impact of the 5th European RTD-Framework programme within the specific programme Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development - Environment and Sustainable Development subprogramme (EESD/Environment). The specific programme consists of four Key Actions (Sustainable Management and Quality of Water, Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity, Sustainable Marine Ecosystems and City of Tomorrow and Cultural Heritage) and three Generic Acitivities (The Fight against Major Natural and Technological Hazards, Development of Generic Earth Observation Technologies and Socio-Economic Aspects of Sustainable Development). Sustainable Modernisation of Existing Buildings –Integrated Services for Sustainable Housing Styles
The Institute for Social-Ecological Research - successfully finished a research project Sustainable Modernisation of Existing Buildings - integrated services for sustainable housing styles, funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research. It was carried out jointly by ISOE, the Eco-Institute Darmstadt and Freiburg (OEI), the Ecological Economics Research Institute, Berlin (IOEW) and the Nassauische Heimstaette - Gesellschaft fuer innovative Projekte im Wohnungsbau mbH (nhgip). The research project is being implemented in co-operation with the Nassauische Heimstaette, a publicly owned Hessian housing company. Main goal of the project was to conceive an integrated approach to an economically viable, socially integrative and environmentally sound modernisation of public housing estates that breaks new ground both from an eco-constructional point of view as well as with regard to an economic and social design.
