The University of Ljubljana (UL), established in 1919, incorporates 26 faculties, academies, and colleges. It has a strong international cooperation – the UL has been involved into 177 projects within 6th Framework Programme, 54 projects within 7th Framework Programme, 23 projects within Lifelong Learning Programme (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci etc), 32 Tempus programmes and 173 projects within other EU and international programmes (COST, Daphni, EUREKA, Safer Internet Plus, ESPON, Culture 2000 etc). The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) is one of the largest members of the University of Ljubljana. It has over 5,100 students in 13 undergraduate and a variety of graduate study programmes. The Faculty of Social Sciences provides educational and research activities in the fields of sociology, political sciences, communications, journalism, cultural sciences, international relations, European studies, defence studies and numerous other disciplines. The FSS has its own research unit – the Institute of Social Sciences (ISS), which includes 19 research centres. They conduct basic and applied research in social sciences. These research units are involved in and responsible for about 90 research projects annually. The projects are funded partly by the public sources (national and the EU - 6th FP, 7th FP, LLP, COST, Safer Internet Plus etc) and partly on the basis of contracts with private organisations or institutions.
