Clinical, experimental, theoretical and historical research into language organization in the brain

Main research interest is in how language is organized in the brain. This includes all aspects of neurogenic language and communication disorders, with a specific interest in cross-linguistic comparisons and bilingual speakers. In addition, she also carries out theoretical work in neurolinguistics from a historical perspective focussing on the 19th century history of ideas about language and communication.

■Professor Lorch serves as a sub-panel member for Linguistics and Modern Languages, Research Excellence Framework 2014 for the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
■She holds executive positions in a number of Learned and Scientific Societies including the International Society for the History of the Neurosciences, Henry Sweet Society for the History of Linguistic Ideas, and International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics.
■Professor Lorch is a founding member of the University Council of General and Applied Linguistics (2009), the British Association of Applied Linguistics Special Interest Group in Psycholinguistics (2003), the British Clinical Linguistics Association (1998) and the International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association (1987).
