 Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
Dr. Paul Benölken (male) studied Applied Computer Science in the Natural Sciences at the University of
Bielefeld where he received his diploma in computer science in 1996. Afterwards he was working as a
research staff member in the field of scientific visualization from 1996 to 1998 in the visualization
department at the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart. In 1999 he joined the department Industrial
Applications at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics in Darmstadt where he has participated and
led different national and international research projects in the field of computer graphics. In 2005 he
received his doctoral degree in computer science from the Darmstadt University of Technology. From 2005
on he was leading the virtual reality group of the department Machine Tool Construction and Forming
Technology at the Chemnitz University of Technology. Beside different research projects in the fields of
Virtual and Augmented Reality, he was responsible for the lecture of virtual reality technologies in
mechanical engineering. Since October 2006 he is working as an academic staff member at the Regional
Computing Center at the University of Cologne where he is responsible for the acquisition and management
different research and development projects. His research focus is on development of software
solutions in the fields of interactive computer graphics, scientific visualization, virtual- and augmented reality,
collaborative engineering as well as gaming technologies and new visualization and interaction methods.
