Sociology of Migration and Sociology of Religion among second generation in UK and USA; migration related discourses on social media in UK

 Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
Substantive expertise: Second generation integration and role of social capital in this process; How race, class, gender and religion shape inclusion/exclusion, belonging and citizenship; migration related discourses on social media in the UK, transnationalism, South Asian masculinities and femininities, diasporic Jains, religion and development.

Methodological expertise: broad range of qualitative methods, including interviews, focus groups, participant observations, documentary analysis and discourse analysis of Twitter data.

Competencies: I have expertise in developing project proposals and have been successful in securing a 3-year Economic and Social Research Council, UK grant.

 International and national projects beyond EU Framework Programme
Project name: Ethnicity, Religion, & Citizenship among the children of immigrants in the UK & USA; area of research: migration and religion. This programme of research was funded by the UK Economic and Social Science Research Council and included two new projects: one project investigated the role of religion in the lives of second-generation Jains in the UK and USA and I was the sole investigator; the second investigated the significance of suburban diasporic places of worship in London, and this was conducted in collaboration with Claire Dwyer, University College London, and David Gilbert, Royal Holloway University of London.

Project name: Transnational Jain diaspora social and political engagements in India; area of research: the influence of diasporic Jains within religious and social arenas in Gujarat, India. This project was conducted in collaboration with Professor Rajaram of Central University Gujarat.
