Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, founded in 1898 as Germany’s first business school, was the
birthplace of modern management education. The university has a long history of close work with industry,
having been originally established by the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The participating
department Center for Leading Innovation & Cooperation (CLIC) was founded in 2006 and bundles the know-how
and experience of a strong international network of institutions and experts in innovation research, focusing
especially on service innovation as well as open innovation and interactive value creation.

HHL’s Center for Leading Innovation and Cooperation conducts transfer oriented as well as basic research in the
fields of entrepreneurship and innovation management. Within these areas it has a strong reputation for business
model innovation, open innovation and service innovation. Although employing a wide range of research designs
and methods, HHL CLIC has a reputation for design-oriented research, i.e. piloting and action research,
collaborating in projects on national, EU and international levels, designing practice-oriented user-specific
workshops, in combination with ethnographic methods of data gathering and case study based analyses. HHL
CLIC’s research is based on third-party funding, e.g. by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research,
by the European Commission, the European Social Fund, and by partnering companies. HHL CLIC can, therefore,
draw on a strong network of researchers, companies, and funding bodies.
