Lecturer in e-learning & instructional design; also undertakes research in technology-enhanced learning, online collaboration, & virtual teams.

 Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
Dr. Darina M. Slattery is Head of Technical Communication and Instructional Design at the University of Limerick
(UL). She holds a PhD in Computer Science (Natural Language Processing with AI), an MSc in Software
Localisation, and a Bachelor of Business Studies with French Degree (UL). She was awarded High Distinction in
Design and Delivery for Online Learning by Swinburne University of Technology, Australia.

She teaches modules/courses in e-learning, instructional design, and technical communication and has published
her research in international refereed journals and conference proceedings. She is also a reviewer for several
international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication and Communication Design
Quarterly. Her teaching and research interests include e-learning, instructional design, virtual teams, technical
communication theory, and financial content analysis. Previously, she was Programme Director for the Graduate
Certificate in Technical Writing and MA in Technical Communication and E-Learning programmes.

 International and national projects beyond EU Framework Programme
I am one of four international researchers investigating communication strategies, leadership roles, and technology use in
student virtual teams. I collaborate annually with Dr. Madelyn Flammia (University of Central Florida), Dr. Patricia
Minacori (Université Paris-Diderot 7), and Dr. Yvonne Cleary (University of Limerick). A co-authored handbook on virtual
teams in higher education is forthcoming with Information Age Publishing.
