Brief description of your activity focus
Impact of institutions, economic reforms and policies on behaviour and performance of economic agents

Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
In the past five years, I have worked on the following topics:
1. Impact of local institutions and economic environment, and government policy, on decisions of economic agents. This includes decision of MNEs about the choice of entry mode when entering developing countries, the decision of firms about choice of location within developing countries, and the decision of individuals to pursue successively higher levels of education.
2. Impact of firm characteristics and monetary policy on disbursal and availability of credit. I have examined this issue both from the banks perspective, taking a look at the impact of ownership on the reaction of banks to monetary policy initiatives, and also from the firms perspective, taking a look at factors that might deny them access to credit and capital markets.
3. Impact of institution-induced firm characteristics such as family ownership and business group affiliation on strategic decisions of firms and the outcomes of such decisions. This includes impact of family ownership on overseas investment decisions of emerging market firms, and the impact of concentrated (or family) ownership of firms on M&A outcomes.
In addition, with funding from ESRC, and in cooperation with economists at UKs Department of Business Innovation and Skills, I am working on the cyclicality of productivity, with emphasis on the impact of the recent recession on innovation and its complements.
