Creating and promoting services of a pedagogic, scientific, assistance and labour nature aimed at teaching, focus in intellectual dissabilities.

AFANIAS is a common public interest non profit association gathering families of persons with intellectual
disabilities, listed in the Registry of Associations and Foundations.
Since 1964 AFANIAS attends persons with intellectual disability and is a pioneer in providing services to this group,
with the aim of improving the quality of life of these people and their families.
Among AFANIAS’ specific goals are:
Creating and promoting centres and services of a pedagogic, scientific, assistance and labour nature aimed at
teaching, attending and rehabilitating persons with intellectual disability, or any other activities geared towards
improving their quality of life.
Promoting the tutorship of orphans, the abandoned and persons with severe problems.
Currently, approximately 1,500 persons with disability are integrated in AFANIAS.

International and national projects beyond EU Framework Programme
AFANIAS applied and was granted several European Projects that were satisfactorily developed with European partners
from countries like Italy, Portugal, Hungary, France, and Austria. Also, AFANIAS has jointed other organisations for
European Initiatives work in partnership with them.
