Brief description of your activity focus
Migration and integration (policies) in international perspective, inclusion, innovation, social change and technology (ICT)

Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
I hold a Doctorate in Sociology with a specialisation in migration and interethnic relations from the
Universities of Bamberg (DE) and Padova (IT).
From 2001 to 2007 I worked as freelancer for various migration research institutes in Europe, including
the European Forum for Migration Studies (efms) and the International and European Forum on
Migration Research (FIERI). In 2007 I earned her Doctor (rer.pol.) and was engaged at the University of
Bamberg as assistant of Richard Münch. From 2008-2010 I worked as a research officer at the
International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in Vienna where I coordinated and
implemented various research projects in the area of migration, development and integration. Among
those: the EU comparative research project ‘Promoting Sustainable Policies for Integration’ (PROSINT)
funded under the European Integration Fund and the ‘Study on the Assessment of the Extent of
Different Types of Trafficking (Trafficking for Sexual Exploitation and Labour Exploitation, Trafficking
of Children and Organ Trafficking) in 17 European Member States’, commissioned by the General
Directorate Justice, Freedom and Security (JLS). I elaborated an eLearning tool on Project Management
for Development Practitioners on behalf of the EC-UN Joint Initiative on Migration and Development and
realized the international conference on ‘ICT and Migration: Mobility and Cohesion in the Digital Age’.
I published and edited numerous reports, studies and book publications on immigration and immigrant
related issues such as ‘The Making of Migration and Integration Policies in Europe: Processes, Actors
and Contexts in Past and Present’ (togethertogether with G. Zincone and Rinus Penninx), ‘The Local
Dimension of Migration Policies’ (together with Tiziana Caponio) and ‘The State of the Art of Research
in the EU on the Take up and Use of ICT by Immigrants and Ethnic Minorities’ for the Institute for
Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS).
