Dr. Sznitmans main research interests are medical marijuana, substance use and abuse andadolescent health, qualitative and quantitative data analysis

Dr. Sznitman received her B.A. in sociology from the University of Manchester and her M.A. and Ph.D.
in sociology from Stockholm University. She then completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at
Annenberg Public Policy Centre at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2010 she was privileged to join the
School of Public Health Department at the University of Haifa as a research associate and in 2012 I
became a lecturer in the School of Public Health. Today, her research is housed within the School of
Public Health where she supervises Master students and Research Assistants and where she collaborates
with national and international researchers.
As a medical sociologist Dr. Sznitmans core interests are with the social and cultural influences of
substance use and abuse, medical marijuana/cannabis use and treatment and adolescent health. She
currently holds a Marie Curie integration grant to develop and test a novel theoretical framework for
studying adolescent substance use. Dr. Sznitman also conducts research on effects of medical cannabis
treatment on chronic pain patients and attitudes and norms of medical professionals and lay people
related to medical cannabis.
